JARVIS, CORZINE, HUFF-CORZINE AWARD
For Outstanding paper as the result of a practitioner-researcher partnership
To honor the decades long collaborations of John Jarvis, Harold Jay Corzine, and Lin Huff-Corzine, as well as their roles as original members of the Homicide Research Working Group, the membership has established a research-practitioner partnership paper award for an outstanding scholarly paper in the field of homicide or lethal violence that demonstrates the importance of the researcher-practitioner partnership.
The Homicide Research Working Group (HRWG) is dedicated to creating and maintaining relationships between researchers and practitioners. The HRWG membership has established a $500 award for the paper that demonstrates an exemplary Research-Practitioner Partnership.
In addition, up to $500 is provided to help cover expenses for one of the winners to present the research at the annual HRWG meeting. One award may be given annually if eligible and a worthy candidate is available and chosen. There is no obligation on the part of the HRWG to issue this award every year.
Eligibility for the award is as follows:
- The paper must have been published in a journal (peer-reviewed or industry) during the twelve (12) months preceding the application deadline.
- One of the authors agrees to present their research at the annual meeting of the Homicide Research Working Group (typically held in June) the year following the award.
- Application material must include the name, title, and email address of the applicant(s), a copy of the paper, and a cover letter summarizing the research-practitioner relationship.
The deadline for nominations is January 31st. The Practitioner Committee will meet to consider the nominations and make a decision by the end of February. The Award winner will then be notified by the HRWG President and asked to present an overview of their work at the annual HRWG meeting.
Please submit any questions to Committee Chair, Amber Scherer at [email protected] prior to the deadline of January 31st, 2026.
